On Thursday 20th September, I had the pleasure of taking five of our most able Year 9 students to spend the morning at the University of Birmingham as part of their journey on the ‘Forward Thinking’ programme.  The programme aims to inspire young people who may want to go on to study in higher education and the students involved will continue to attend sessions until they leave in Year 11.

Over the course of the morning, the students got involved in taster sessions of University courses held in different venues on the campus. The first session focussed on Geology and included a question trail around the Lapworth Museum at the university which all students engaged with brilliantly. The second was a whistle stop tour of learning Japanese, held in a lecture theatre.

The next part of the programme our students have to look forward to is a day in the life of a University student, with tours of university halls, visits to social societies and a bowling trip! Well done to all involved for being role models for our school.
