Turley Visit – Monday 11th February 2019

On Monday 11th February the Year 11 geographers were visited by Turley, who are a national planning and consultancy firm. They work with many planning applications across the country, including the planning and development of New Street station, Edgbaston Cricket Ground and many new developments under construction around the city of Birmingham such as ‘Paradise’ and ‘2one2 Broad Street’ which will be tallest building in Birmingham to date. They discussed their roles and responsibilities with the students and focused on possible career opportunities; informing them of different pathways that could be taken.

Students took part in an activity where they had a plan of the school and they worked in groups to come up with ways in which it could be remodelled in order to make it more sustainable for future students in the area. The students were engaged and found it interesting and it has opened up their eyes to opportunities that maybe they didn’t know existed.

Special thanks to our visitors from Turley.

Some thoughts from the students:

The workshop was a very interesting and eye-opening experience. I have definitely learned more about how our current industries are part of our day-to-day lives.

Hayat – Year 11:

It was a pleasant experience and it was very beneficial for our course and helped us towards our future career goals.
