Year 8
The Year Group saint for Year 8 is St Teresa of Calcutta
Year 8 identity is ‘My Goals’
Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a Catholic nun and missionary who dedicated her life to serving the poorest and most vulnerable. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, providing care for the sick, homeless, and dying around the world. Known for her compassion and humility, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation devoted to caring for “the poorest of the poor.” Her work spanned caring for the sick, homeless, and dying, often in the most challenging conditions. Mother Teresa was canonized as a saint on September 4, 2016, and remains an enduring symbol of love and selfless service.

In Year 8, we are dedicated to cultivating a culture of ambition and achievement. Our vision is to inspire every student to set and pursue meaningful goals, both academic and personal, with resilience and determination. We believe that by fostering a supportive and dynamic environment, we empower our students to reach their full potential and become confident, goal-oriented individuals ready to navigate their future paths with purpose and passion. Together, we are committed to making Year 8 a transformative journey marked by growth, discovery, and success.
Year 8 Assessment
Year 8 assessment continues in the same way as Year 7, ensuring consistency in tracking student progress. In Year 8, students are assessed twice a year through data collection points, typically in the spring and summer terms. Students will complete various assessments throughout the year, and their performance will be monitored closely.
After each data collection point, parents will receive an overview of their child’s progress, communicating to parents with the same acronyms that are used in Year 7.
In November, there is a Parent Information Evening, where parents will be provided with important details regarding students’ journey through Year 8. This evening offers an opportunity for parents to engage with the school and ask any questions they may have.
In the Summer Term, a Parents’ Evening is held, allowing parents to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. This gives parents a chance to receive valuable feedback and support their child’s academic development moving forward.
At the end of Year 8, students will complete mock exams, focusing on two to three subjects. The mock exams are designed not only to assess students’ knowledge and skills but also to help them build essential exam techniques, such as time management, revising effectively, and handling exam pressure.
