Message from Headteacher and the Holy Trinity Mission Statement

Headteacher – Welcome and Introduction

Hello,

I am Mr Crehan, the very proud Headteacher of Holy Trinity Catholic School!

Holy Trinity Catholic School is a mixed Secondary School located in the Small Heath area of Birmingham. The school is named after the Trinity, the Christian doctrine that defines God as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity is a founder partner in the St Teresa of Calcutta Multi-Academy Catholic Company and is proud to be a part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham. Despite falling numbers of Catholic pupils (4%) the Catholic ethos and culture in the school is a significant strength and all staff make a positive contribution in ensuring that this continues to flourish. A significant number of pupils (81%) are Muslim. Our devoutly religious and spiritually literate Muslim community, support in ensuring that worship of Jesus Christ is at the Centre of our school. Holy Trinity Catholic School also welcomes pupils from a wide range of other Christian and other faith communities. Within our highly inclusive community, we fully embrace pupils and families not affiliated to any religion. S48 inspection in January 2020 evaluated Holy Trinity as a ‘Outstanding’ in all areas and stated that the ‘mission of the school permeates every aspect of its work. Staff and pupils have established a steadfast culture of respect and love for each other as creations of God, out of which drives their ambition to ‘achieve anything’. (Section 48 Inspection Report: January 2020).

The establishment of a new ‘Mission Statement’ (September 2023) has been integral to the schools continued improvement. The Mission Statement is ‘lived’ by all stakeholders and inspires every aspect of the schools work to improve educational prosperity and holistic development for all its young people. It is the intention that all pupils leave Holy Trinity at the end of Year 11 having ‘grown in knowledge and spirituality’ and ‘inspired to become successful citizens and are understanding, compassionate and loving to all of humanity’. When speaking of the greatest commandment, Jesus stated that it was essential to ‘love thy neighbour’. Our schools motto ‘Learn to Love, Love to Learn, determines our ability to act with kindness, to love one another and to celebrate uniqueness through the promotion of peace, respect and tolerance. Pupils continue to make above expected and ‘exceptional’ progress in Religious Education

Holy Trinity Catholic School currently has 755 pupils on roll. It is important to note that school has significantly higher percentages of SEND pupils, Disadvantaged Pupils, EAL pupils and proportion of young people coming from a Minority Ethnic group compared to national averages. Starting points are significantly below national average on entry for  KS2 attainment. Holy Trinity works with an upward of 45 different Primary Feeder Schools. Holy Trinity is in the upper quintile for deprivation nationally and serves a disadvantaged community. Underpinned by Catholic Social Teaching (CST) our school works relentlessly to alleviate poverty within its own community and wider, and battles to provide ‘a preferential option for the poor’. Holy Trinity goes above and beyond in its caring ethos to support those who are disadvantaged and sees this as an essential part of its mission to follow the example of Jesus Christ.

Holy Trinity was rated as a ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for Personal Development, Behaviour & Attitudes and Leadership & Management in September 2023. More recently school received a ‘Gold’ accreditation in Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Charter. As the founder member of the St Teresa of Calcutta MAC, Holy Trinity is committed to the spiritual development of all children across our family of schools. All stakeholders are highly committed to making further improvements to ensure that all pupils attending Holy Trinity receive the highest possible standard in Catholic Education.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information and for visiting our School Website.

Yours sincerely,

Holy Trinity Mission Statement

Holy Trinity Catholic School serves the local community; Christ is at the centre of our school and our greatest example. Our school is a place where uniqueness and diversity is celebrated and respected because we know and believe that we are united as children of God and created in His image. Through acts of love and learning, we grow in knowledge and spirituality, we are inspired to become successful citizens and are understanding, compassionate and loving to all of humanity.

A vision for an ‘Outstanding School’

With Christ at our centre, our educational intent at Holy Trinity, is inspired through the schools motto: ‘Learn to Love. Love to Learn’. We ensure that the interests of all young people are respected equally, in a thriving culture of encouragement and achievement. We work to enable each of the current key priority areas, to complement one another, working in synergy to ensure that the skills, needs and worth of every single pupil are recognised and developed. Working alongside our Academy partners & Governors, we look to establish short and long term strategic goals, ensuring that Holy Trinity is a flourishing institution both in the present and in the future. The schools leadership team work collaboratively and effectively and model a total commitment to school improvement. Leaders are ‘just’ through their words and actions. Leaders at all levels, develop a synthesised approach to school improvement and self-evaluation.  Leaders are committed to the development and well-being of all staff, irrespective of their job responsibility. All staff contribute to the schools mission and play an active part in its development. A culture of Safeguarding permeates through all aspects of school life. Holy Trinity Catholic School is compliant ‘plus’ in its statutory requirements. All pupils are loved, cared for, respected and treated with dignity. The ‘voices’ of all children are heard and valued. Holy Trinity is committed to working with external agencies and collaborating through community outreach work.

Holy Trinity is committed to the inclusivity of all members of the school community. Holy Trinity is a place where perceived ‘difference’ is ignored, choosing instead to focus upon all of our many shared characteristics. To be regarded as truly ‘Outstanding’, the schools Behaviour System is required to sanction, educate, forgive, reconcile, reward and to stimulate personal growth. Through Personal Development, we want all pupils to develop ‘holistically’, becoming confident citizens who accept themselves and all other people. It is our intent to ensure that Holy Trinity’s curriculum is broad, balanced, aspirational, exciting and engaging for all learners. At Holy Trinity, we believe that all young people should be able to access their full curriculum entitlement. Holy Trinity is committed to having an ambitious vision to support youngsters with Special Educational Needs and / or Disability. The school’s curriculum is underpinned by a clear strategy on numeracy and literacy, which includes a thriving culture of reading.

At Holy Trinity, we want all youngsters to be able to access a wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities, having access to a plethora of experiences to enhance their culture capital. Pupils are encouraged to ‘think’ in lessons and are suitably challenged in order to reach their potential. Pupils are encouraged to ‘take risks’ and to accept that challenges in learning will be encountered. Through, collaboration with teachers, young people are equipped with the confidence to problem solve and to overcome any difficulties encountered. Teachers have ‘no limits’ in their expectations for all learners, with Holy Trinity youngsters instilled with the belief that they ‘can achieve anything’ that they aspire for, with any possible barriers to this success understood, but positively challenged. We want young people to look back at their time in Holy Trinity as being a very happy one that was filled with many opportunities and fond memories. As young people educated in a faith environment, youngsters will make a positive contribution to the world, inspired by how they have developed in school. Ultimately, we want every pupil ‘to leave with a love of all people as equals and an appreciation of the common good. We want all pupils to leave with a world of opportunities at their feet; for them to reach their fullest of potentials; to believe in themselves, and to achieve their wildest dreams’.
