Year 7 and 8 visit Carding Mill Valley

On Wednesday 9th April, the Geography department took 50 Year 7 and 8 pupils to Carding Mill Valley in the Long Mynd, Shropshire. It was a lovely day and perfect for a nice walk and picnic with pupils that were rewarded for their consistent and positive behaviour in Geography since September. The coach ride there was one of the highlights for the pupils, where clearly seeing countryside, open space including some sheep and cows was a new experience. On the trip, we did two walks. The first to the reservoir where Mr Woolgar shared some details about the reservoir; how the landscape was formed alongside discussing rivers, V-shaped valleys and interlocking spurs. The second walk took us further up the valley to the waterfall. This was a lovely aspect of Geography for the pupils to see. It is here where we sat and relxed on the river bank eating our lunch. We then descended back down the valley to enjoy a tasty ice-cream before heading back to school. Pupils really enjoyed the trip.

A special thanks goes to Mr Woolgar, Mrs McDonagh, Miss Akhtar, Mr McCann and Miss Dhir for their support on the trip.

Here is Great and his wonderful poster detailing our day out, the landforms that we saw and a fantastic drawing.  He did this totally of his own volition, this was not homework or a competition. He has received 10 BFLs and a Praise Newsletter.
Great is always going above and beyond with his homework and independent study.  He has drawn us 2 other Geography pictures to go with our learning.  A fabulous asset to our school and true star in the making
